Bride in the City: Karen de Aquino

Style Unveiled, as hard as we try, knows that sometimes it takes a woman who's walking in your same 'heels' to help with something like planning a day as big as a wedding.  And while we will always be here to help with inspirational photos, real weddings, vendor suggestions, venue ideas, our Perfect 10 lists, and more ... we want to bring you something priceless ... Advice from brides who are doing the same as you (right now!!) ... PLANNING THEIR WEDDING :)  Our new addition, Bride in the City will give you inside info from other brides in Northern California to help you along the way and make you feel like you're not the only one :)  So ... get ready to bond with our first Bride in the City guest:  Karen de Aquino

We got engaged on Christmas Day, 2008.  After I opened all my gifts, Gabe reached out for a small box on top of the Christmas tree and said that there is one more gift I had to open.  When I opened it, it was a ring!  He got down on one knee and proposed.  It was the best Christmas gift I had ever received.

We have hired the talented Alison Ulshoffer for our wedding planner, our fabulous florist is Martha Andrews of Blooms, our dessert goddess is Carissa Jones of Sugar and Spice and our photographer is the creative team of Tinywater Photography

We are getting married in Sacramento since this has always been home for us.  We are planning on getting married at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and will have the reception at The Hyatt Hotel.  The two places are so close by that our guests and wedding party can just walk from one place to the other.

That we are officially getting married!  Also, we can't wait to hold the biggest party of our lives!

That it will rain on that day! (I am hoping and praying it will not!).  Besides that, we feel pretty confident with the team we have assembled.

Our wedding theme is Urban Chic.

Yes.  I was still based in New York when Gabe proposed, so I wanted someone from Sacramento who could help me out.  The first time I talked to Alison Ulshoffer, I knew that we would be able to work well together.  I think it's important that you hire someone who you are comfortable with since you're going to be interacting with them through the whole wedding process.

We are pretty laidback and nothing sounds better than lazing out on the beach.  We are planning on having our honeymoon in the Caribbean or South Pacific.

I like the The Knot, Style Me Pretty, Here Comes the Guide, and Etsy!

He goes with me to vendor appointments without complaints and for that I am thankful!

The first thing you have to decide on is the location!  Reception venues are booked so far ahead and so you have to reserve these places early, especially if you are planning the wedding during the spring/summer season.  Gabe has been a good moral support throughout this process.

Initially, we wanted the element of surprise of not seeing each other until the ceremony.  But we realized that we want that moment of seeing each in a private setting, sharing that special moment, and having it captured for years to come.

Giddy, Pretty, Loved!
